a new day
Tom Montag and I have collaborated once again to create a postcard with a short poem called A New Day for Postal Poetry. Though they accepted this some time ago, the editors Dana Guthrie Martin and Dave Bonta have cleverly chosen to post it today, an exciting new day and the start of a hopeful new era in the USA. Thank you!
This gives me a perfect opportunity to offer congratulations and best wishes to President Barack Obama, his wife Michelle and their daughters, a lovely first family in Washington. Congratulations and a big thank you also to all the people who voted for him!
Yes, I caught some of that Obamamania even here in Canada. I watched the inauguration on television with awed fascination over the immense crowds, the huge staging and organization, the pomp and ceremony like nothing we have here in Canada. This unique and historical inauguration moved me though perhaps not quite as much as that fantastic night in Chicago. It was the first one I've ever watched, says something, eh?

It was reported that not one single arrest was made during the festivities on Inauguration Day in DC. It feels quite good, let me tell you. The phrase you hear is "happy responsibility" ... there seems to be an air of mutual respect in the air that had been sorely missing. Hearing the morning news tell us about the activities of "President Obama" is most heartening.
rouchswalwe, I heard that too, though there were boos and some fingers against the ex-pres. that weren't shown on the TV networks, but peaceful still. It's certainly a different feeling - let's hope it continues!
I don't personally know anyone who isn't excited and relieved by these miraculous events! Thanks for being with us in spirit!! It is indeed a new world and a new day!!
Joan, that is great to hear! It's all so new and wonderful right now that I hope that we are not too disappointed when the long hard and slow work really gets underway. It certainly can only get better given time. We Canadians are rather envious that you have such an inspiring leader while we have continuing issues with our own leadership here.
Love your postcard, love what you've said here. I hope we will all be feeling just as optimistic and hopeful four years from now. It does say a lot that you and so many others worldwide also watched this event and felt moved by it. It feels a lot more like one world again.
