Can you spot which of these show the hand of man upon nature?

P.S. Happy 140th Birthday, British Columbia! No, really.

Shells, barnacles, pumice, stone, moss, sea and sky. I think I even saw a manhole cover. I wonder what ancient civilization left that upon the shore?

Your photographs are always utterly fascinating.

do you know the name of those shells at the top? i love them and collected a pair.

did i miss bc day? always missing some kind of holiday ;)
x

Susan, you see pumice somewhere? Tell me for I don't recognize it. Yes, that is some kind of manhole cover disguised in a mad-made rock. strange, eh. You are so kind.

Elisa, I don't know the names of any shells. Can you tell I grew up on the prairies?

No, you didn't miss it. The official BC Day and holiday is the first Monday of August. It's not even the anniversary of our province's joining Canada as the sixth province - I was surprised to read it's actually today.

Mosaics all over the place. Love the stair-step rocks. The natural processes make even a man-hole cover beautiful.

zhoen, how wonderful to call these textures "mosaics". Glad you like the stair rocks, there were several of them, I wish I'd photographed them all. It was odd how many of them started (or ended) quite high above the low tide level.

Once again you've got me wishing I had more time to travel. Amazing how grey and white can tickle the fancy to this degree.

rouchswalwe, you don't have to travel far sometimes to see great things! Glad you like these.

I thought you were going to say the last three (the stairs, the cover, and--what is that round rusty mark?)

Like these. Very pleasing shapes. The gray irregularities plus limpets reminds me of pictures I took on the Aberystwyth beach.

Marly, yes, the last three photos show the manmade. The first of those three is a detail of another concrete step with shells embedded in as well as a metal bolt, I think, that has rusted.

"LImpet", thank you! That's the name I was trying to remember for those tiny shells amongst all the barnacles. It seems barnacles are found on every seacoast... the bane of boaters.

Wasn't it nice when cement could be beautiful rather than unadulterated Portland Gray?

Marly, yes, as well as with textures.

I envisioned the pumice in picture #4 right above the manhole cover. I thought I was seeing the telltale spongy texture but now when I look again I see I was wrong. oops :-)

Susan, oh, that's okay! I wish you had seen pumice so I'd know what it looks like in the wild, so to speak.
