The Kamloops area of BC is dry grassland country. When we visited late March, the predominant colour of the land seemed to be the shade of wheat and its many subtle variations. These plantings of silvery beige grasses interspersed with reddish dried stalks of echinacea caught my eye as we walked about the university campus. Such a contrast to the year-round colour of green in our southwest coastal rainforest.

That is very refreshing to look at. It’s dry but not arid.
Lovely colours and textures, neutrals and browns can be so rich.
All three are beautiful but that first image is one I keep returning to look at again. The sheer elegance of the composition is breathtaking.

Marly, oh yes, there is the contrast in the stances, as well as the colours.
Marja-Leena, sorry to be so late here. I’m still catching up on blog-reading. These grasses are so gorgeous — I love wild grasses and also the fact that many types have become available for “cultivation” and are being used so wonderfully by landscape designers. The contrast of the seedheads and the blonde grass is especially beautiful!
Beth, I am pleased to have you visit and that you liked these images. Grasses are very popular in landscaping and gardens here too, though I haven’t found room for them in my garden yet.
