Macro views of the tiles on top of a coffee table built by my husband over 40 years ago, weathered, much used and loved.
Edited March 10th, 2010: A few curious folk have asked for a description or photo of the table. I'm really enjoying the abstraction and designs that come out of seeing the macro images out of context, so I feel a wee reluctant to start showing off the furniture but here is a view. The colour of the tiles in this photo, taken under incandescent lights, is close to reality whereas the macro shots in sunlight gave forth amazing brilliant colours.

I think I agree with you about keeping them mysterious. Jerry takes the journal Science which has covers that are often quite beautiful and mysterious. It takes time to dig out the small note that explains the micrograph or strange organism or view from space that is the subject of the cover.
I have been away, and then sick, so am catching up on posts. I enjoyed the one about Alice very much. It was one of my favorite books as a child and I have read it many times since, each time finding something new and amusing.

Anne, sorry to hear you've been sick, hope you're getting better now! We agree then on "mysterious", even my art work is often said to have that quality so I suppose it's why I love photos like that too, including those amazing science ones you mention, and even Alice!

I do believe I may have seen that table. I love things that have worn down so that they look like natural weathered objects.

An interesting thing I've noticed about the macro shots is that they hint at single point meditation where function and form is irrelevant to the essential 'isness' of whatever is in view.
