Vancouver Art SWARM
SWARM is Vancouver’s annual gallery-hop, meet-and-greet, and art party extravaganza. Over two nights, almost 20 artist run centres, collectives and galleries will all open their doors to celebrate the vibrant, diverse practices and practitioners showing in Vancouver. Over the past five years, SWARM has evolved into the premier showcase for local galleries and the artists they show, as well as the must-see event for Vancouver art lovers. This year SWARM6 promises an exciting program of exhibitions, events, screenings and performances—a multifaceted glimpse into contemporary art in the city.
This year, SWARM will happen on two nights: Thursday, September 8 for the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood, and Friday, September 9 for the Downtown and Gastown venues. Check out the SWARM website (links on the bottom) for details.
SWARM6 is organized by PAARC, the Pacific Association of Artist Run Centres. Artist-run Centres (ARCs) are non-profit organizations, run by and for artists, supporting new and innovative practices in the arts.

Hi Marja-leena et al.
This is your elliptical and excentric correspondant from Missouri. Speaking to you has sparked me to review my collection of on line stone carving information, first with a view to your interest in petroglypherry and then your Finnish roots, and on out from there in waves and circles. One of these waves has echoed back to slap me refreshingly in the face. I spent several moments searching the Finnish words you gave me for stone, carving and sculpture with no promising result. I fell back to googling Larvik, which is in Norway, I think where I have previously visited sites dealing with a carving symposium held there. I chanced on this new site put up by the stone quarry which sponsors the symposioum. I have been looking at the realm of possibilties offered by symposia held throughout the world from Mongolia to India to Africa to etc...The Larvik symposium sounds very inviting. The conitions and terms of these symposia vary wildly and these terms seem very favorable, though it does seem one would likely have to been responsible for one's own transportaion. I am asking about that and for an application as well. Thanks Marja-leena for putting yourself out there, as solid presence with which my scurrying mind waves might collide and return to me with startling result!

PS
One of the most inviting statements in the quarry symposium page was the welcome to the young and inexperienced. Great attitude on their part.

Hi Bill, I just did a quick search "Sculpture in Finland" and came across this page that might be of interest:
International Directory of Sculpture Parks & Gardens: Europe.
Under Finland, is the Pirkkala Sculpture Park which seems to hold some symposiums.
