Recently I happily leafed through some of my favourite photographs taken over a decade ago on Hornby Island, BC. The ocean weathered rocks and the petroglyphs were of endless fascination to me, and I eagerly captured these on film. This particular one was a special one that I named Fetus Rock, and which I later used to create Meta-morphosis IV (Primo).

In fact quite a few of my Hornby Island photographs were used in the Meta-morphosis series, combined sometimes with photos taken in Italy (a story for another day).

Here is a photo of one of the petroglyphs on Hornby.

ADDENDUM: on March 3, 2011 I wrote I am thrilled and honoured to have one of my very favourite and special-to-me photographs on the cover of Mercy Island, a collection of new and selected poetry by Ren Powell and just published by Phoenicia.

qarrtsiluni

I’m late in congratulating the “parents” on the birth of qarrtsiluni, a new cooperative blog. Beth of Cassandra Pages announced it best, so do go read it. I love the name, an Inuit word which means “sitting together in the darkness, waiting for something to burst”. As Beth wrote, they are soliciting contributions.

My submission is up today, an image from my Meta-morphosis series of prints that I chose because I feel fits in with this month’s theme of “Change and Continuity“. I’m so pleased to be included in this collaboration with some very fine writers and visual artists, who have already posted some wonderful work. Please visit qarrtsiluni often and join in.

Here are a few installation views taken of my 1998 solo exhibition of the Meta-morphosis series at the Seymour Art Gallery in North Vancouver, BC.

Installation photos are always a challenge with the various lights, reflections and distractions (like the dark plinths), but they do give some overall view of the exhibition.

This bottom photo shows a display of the deeply-etched copperplate that was used in printing the adjacent Meta-morphosis X prints.
