rusty can
Another exciting unearthing in the garden! From the same area as the roots, this rusty and disintegrating metal object (a paint can?) is the kind of find that I love. It is a delight, as well as a challenge to photograph well since I’ve not done any macro shots for a while. I plan to do more of these.
I know, I know, rust objects do occupy a huge place in my photo collection. Here are just a couple amongst many favourites: a rust circle and treasure hunt. And of course, my Fragments series of prints consist of several rusty objects.

Looks like some of my ceramics ! I don’t tnink I’m going to be making a name for myself with them!
But it’s funny how such found objects give me ideas, too. I just don’t have the talent and experience to execute these effects. It’s an art, as they say.
I have a bowl full of things unearthed from my yard–a clay marble, a doll’s plate, the bowl and a bit of stem from a Dutch clay pipe, fragments of flow blue and transfer ware and striped clay. Magic.
Hattie, inspiration can be easily had, I think, but it can be hard work to carry out certain ideas. I make no claims in advance that anything will come out of these other than interesting photos. Sometimes all these fascinating finds over time just blend in and come forth in another form. Part of life’s experiences, shall we say.
Marly, what wonderful finds you have unearthed, from a place with much history, unlike our place. The only whole thing we have found was a little brown glass medicine bottle with a tiny rubber stopper.
What did you do with it?
Marly, you mean the little brown bottle? It sits on a shelf right near my computer desk, in the company of a larger brown glass jug.
Buried treasure. I find that almost anything that has been beneath the ground for a long time, becomes interesting like a traveller returning from a long journey. But this can just shows what a can can do.
Joe, I love your description of buried treasure being ‘like a traveller returning from a long journey’, and the next sentence made me chuckle.
