One day in the kitchen just after the holidays, I had the sudden urge to scan something that was on its way into the garbage. Here are a few of the images I captured. I bet you can guess what these are. They are going into my image library for possible use in future prints.
Longtime readers know how much I love playing with the scanner and have seen the numerous images I’ve posted. There are far too many to dig out from the archives, but here are a few that may be of interest to newer readers, especially those of you who may be interested in some of the techniques I’ve discussed in response to readers’ questions:

Gosh, I live on in your archives, a form of Canadio-immortality. You appear to have achieved the modern-day equivalent of the Philosopher’s Stone with the first pic: converting Reynolds Wrap into leather.
BB, oh yes, the archives live on, almost seven years since they began, so be careful what you say 🙂 How interesting that you see leather (and yes it IS foil wrap). To me these look like aerial shots of landscapes. I guess these didn’t turn on many readers judging by lack of comments, but I like them and hope to find a use for them beyond this blog.
This reminds me of a moment 40 years ago when I, a scientist in the Department of Agriculture, was playing with the xerox machine. I xeroxed my face. The result was horrible. I tore up the paper and tossed it in the trash. My technician, a cheeky young man, fished it out, pieced it together, re-xeroxed it and posted it all over the lab. (Yes, that’s the kind of thing our taxes pay for.)
I recall getting some lovely textures by scanning plastic wrap crumpled around ropes of Wal-Mart fake pearls. 🙂
